    Description

SUPER 1/6 PLATE AMBROTYPE - YOUNG REDHEADED BOY IN EX- THERMOPLASTIC UNION CASE -
A great sixth plate ambrotype of what appears to be a young redheaded boy with a small cleft in his chin. His likeness is contained in a beautiful thermoplastic case know as, "The Calmady Children" Berg 1-104. The child stands in what could be his first pair of trousers and wears the popular plaid tunic of this period. He rests his arm on the photographer's posing table with one of the boldest tablecloths I have ever seen in a 19th Century portrait. The case is in perfect cosmetic condition, but I must clearly point out, if not for the male prong on the case missing, this thermoplastic case would be considered mint in condition. If you do not mind the case not holding shut and wish to display this case open on your shelf, you are certainly going to be pleased with both the exterior designs and the interior of this charming 19th Century portrait. Good luck to my winning bidder.

Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of this cased image and as part of my description. The sixth plate Ambrotype contains excellent contrast, tonal range and beautiful sharpness. The case lists in Berg's bible on 19th Century cases for 0 alone, but with the male part of the latch broken off I have adjusted my opening list price along with the fact that the housing holds a wonderful portrait and is in wonderful condition otherwise. The case has no other major issues and still displays the ambrotype of the boy beautifully. I am sure you will enjoy this image for many years ahead. I will carefully ship this item to the winning bidder by way of Priority Mail.
